Pr. Philippe Grenier
La Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital - Paris, France
Professor Philippe Grenier is the Head of the Radiology Department of La Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital, Paris, France. One of the CT scanners of the department is dedicated to thoracic and abdominal imaging and the CAD is a necessary tool to keep up with the fast workflow.

“Pulmonary CAD applications need to be integrated in the clinical routine because they answer the needs for the management of small pulmonary nodules which are present in almost 50 % of the patients”, says Pr. Grenier. “In oncologic patients, it is extremely important to detect these nodules and in any case, the follow-up of the nodules over time may be the only way to know if they are benign”.

Regarding colon CAD applications, Pr. Grenier sees them as a necessary tool to help the radiologist be accurate when reading CT-Colonography examinations. “It is very important to have the CAD as a concurrent reader in order to double check that the radiologist has not missed a polyp”.

MEDIAN LMS-Lung and LMS-Colon applications answer these clinical needs. They also improve the productivity of the department and communication between the clinicians by providing reports integrating all relevant information and images.

According to Pr. Grenier, the users need to have easy and fast access to the CAD applications because they are used for most of the routine examinations. “In order to enable easy and fast access, the CAD needs to be integrated in the existing workstations. It does not seem reasonable to consider a dedicated workstation for a CAD applications, it seems far more desirable that the CAD is accessible from any workstation in the department whether modalities or PACS workstations”.
